Liberal arguments nothing more than labeling? 'Another Gust of hot air'

Carrie Goertz at Oklahoma Media Watch challenges Edmond Life and Leisure columnist Steve Gust's recent column claiming that liberal arguments against the right wing are based on nothing more than labeling conservatives as “extremists.”
In the past, Gust has stated that being a “patriot” means that one cannot embarrass the country by publicly protesting government policy. Funny, I thought that being a patriot had a little something to do with caring enough about your country to speak out against corruption and immorality…silly me.

This time Gust has doubled his defense in support of the conservative agenda by adding a little math to his recent commentary entitled, “Extremist=Conservative?” Although he states his title in the form of an equation, at least he has enough good sense to add the question mark at the end since his argument attacking liberals seems just as confused as his title. Gust claims that liberal arguments against the right wing are based on nothing more than labeling conservatives as “extremists.” This is funny because I could have sworn that I have heard Gust use the word, “extremist,” before… maybe it was when he was basking in the glory of his own mud slinging campaign by calling Ruth Bader Ginsburg a liberal extremist in his own Sept. 22 commentary! Gust may be confused about where the line is between conservative and extremist as demonstrated by his title, but I can certainly tell him where to put the equal sign between Gust and hypocrite.

After reading Gust's column, he can safely remove the question mark after the title. He is indeed "extreme" — extremely ignorant and extremely uncompelling in his reasoning. Bravo to Carrie Goertz for taking Gust to task.
